John Moncrieff offers a comprehensive range of quartz glass products, meticulously crafted from high-purity silicon oxide glass in three distinct grades to meet varying light transmission requirements. Our offerings include flat glass, tubular glass, and custom-formed shapes such as bowls, hollow ware, and boats.
Key Features of Quartz Glass:
Exceptional Heat Resistance: Withstands temperatures up to 1200°C while maintaining structural integrity.
Superior Hardness: Achieves a Mohs hardness of 7, ensuring durability and resistance to scratches.
Broad Spectrum Transparency: Transmits a wide range of light, from ultraviolet to infrared, with minimal absorption.
Excellent Chemical Resistance: Resists corrosion from most acids and alkalis, demonstrating exceptional chemical stability.
Radiation Resistance: Maintains its properties under exposure to ionizing radiation.
Electrical Insulation: Offers excellent electrical insulation properties, even at high temperatures.
Additional Properties:
Water and Acid Resistance: Resistant to water and strong acids (except hydrofluoric acid).
Thermal Shock Resistance: Withstands sudden temperature changes due to its low thermal expansion coefficient.
High Melting Point: Maintains its solid state at extremely high temperatures.
Applications:
Quartz glass is widely used in industries demanding materials with exceptional heat resistance, chemical stability, and optical clarity. Common applications include:
Semiconductor Manufacturing: Used in various processes, including wafer fabrication and lithography.
Optical Components: Employed in lenses, prisms, and other optical devices.
High-Temperature Applications: Ideal for furnaces, crucibles, and other equipment operating at high temperatures.
Chemical Processing: Utilized in reactors, vessels, and components handling corrosive substances.
Lighting: Employed in various lighting applications, including halogen lamps and ultraviolet sources.
Technical Details
(UV optical quartz glass) JGS1 It is an optical quartz glass made from artificial stone with SiCl4 as raw material and melted by high-purity hydrogen-oxygen flame. Therefore, it contains a large amount of hydroxyl groups (about 2000 ppm) and has excellent UV transmission properties. Especially in the short-wave UV region, its transmission properties are far superior to all other types of glass. The UV transmittance at 185nm can reach 90% or higher. Synthetic quartz glass has a strong absorption peak at 2730 nm and has no grain structure. It is an excellent optical material in the range of 185-2500nm.
(UV optical quartz glass) JGS2 It is quartz glass refined by gas with crystal as raw material and contains dozens of PPM metal impurities. There is an absorption peak at 100nm (the hydroxyl content is 200-2730ppm), and it has a stripe and granular structure. It is an excellent material in the 220-2500 nm band range. We use this glass for the preparation of sight glasses, panels, and pressed items.
(Infrared optical quartz glass) JGS3 It is a quartz glass produced from crystal or high-purity quartz sand through a vacuum pressure furnace (ie, electric melting method), which contains dozens of PPM metal impurities. It has small air bubbles, grain structure and stripes, almost no OH, and high infrared transmittance. The light transmittance exceeds 85%. Its application range is 260-3500 nm optical materials.
